Hungary supports African expert’s nomination to UN agriculture fund head
Hungary is ready to support the nomination of an expert from Africa to head the International Fund for Agricultural Development, an agency of the United Nations, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Monday.
Szijjártó had talks with Raychelle Omamo, his Kenyan counterpart, her government’s nominee for the IFAD post.
Referring to an impending food crisis in Africa, he said the war in Ukraine had serious ramifications beyond Europe, noting that Ukraine and Russia are among the world’s largest grain exporters.
“Many African countries require extremely rapid developments in agriculture and their food industry, so it would be good if the nominee of an African country filled this important position,”
Szijjártó said.
